StutterI was never good at this.   
I am shuffling bloodbeams.  I'm faltering two-tenths of a step  and coiling back  like a ribbon of awkward laughter.   
I am afraid of mediocrity.  I have swallowed all its stitches,  those jealous worms,  then reshaped its doughy face.  Now it is an ashtray.   
I may avoid your questions  if they are literal.   
(I've not dusted off  dear old dignity for quite some time,  and she may lose faith in me  if I make her an artifact.)   
I like to keep things trivial.

He was a Constellation OnceHe is fourth degree burn boy.  Mismatched boy  of the awkward ceramic knees  that clink and bruise  in the thick seizure of night.   
He has a blanket  that buries his blunted shapes.  He hates the very logic of them, he says.  But really, he makes cockroaches  of shoelaces and guard rails,  and he knows no boundary between truth  and the smeared shuffle  of paranoia.   
There was a reason to write for him,  once. Now he has found purpose  in the hemorrhages nested behind his ears,  and he speaks of them  like kindreds.

4am: A Soft DefeatInfomercials stain my sallow arms  with a dull, swampy glow.   
For hours  
I collect television static like rainwater  
in my cupped palms,  then stir it into the coffee  I can hardly gather energy to drink.   
Shuddering, slack-jawed,  I bend toward the mouth of exhaustion  and crumble into its balmy center. 4am: A Soft Defeat

Gecko-eyed.Vicious sunlight,  
that solicitor,  slinks in through humid tents  to sell us another day  
of concerts,  
of risky, overpriced foreign food  and those pensive silences,  sitting side by side  
on a beach towel,  where we fold our hands in our laps  and study the dried graffiti  
of sweat and dust  
spidering our palms.   
All this time, I can't stop thinking  about how little this festival  really has to do with music.   
No. It's about how taut  
one can stretch the mind  
before it fizzles and spins  like antacids in a cup of water. &n Gecko-eyed.

I've been studying Buddhism for the past few months, and right now I'm making the transition from atheist to convert. In the past, I've backed out of potential relationships. Ignored countless deadlines. Paid for a decent haircut, only to maim it with kitchen scissors a day later. I've never taken commitment seriously because I've never had to. I want that to change.

I'm still looking for a job. Being restricted to one little town doesn't help my predicament, but I've got four more applications to turn in on Monday. I'm hoping I don't have to resort to working in fast food, but if it comes down to it, well, I guess I'll just have to suck it up.

It's been a month since I've had a night out. Erick Baker's CD release shindig is on the 29th in Knoxville, so I'll probably partake.


I watched a video today of Anne Sexton reciting "Her Kind". I hadn't anticipated how differently her words would affect me, shaped in her own husky drawl. It was unsettling.

Awesome! =D I just graduated from Driver's Ed. today, and I plan on getting my license in about three weeks...sooo, a few weeks after that, I'll probably be comfortable enough with driving to go snatch up the Andi and we can hang out at whichever bookstores you want. Or all of them. :D Sound exciting? n.n
