I am shuffling bloodbeams. I'm faltering two-tenths of a step and coiling back like a ribbon of awkward laughter.

He has a blanket that buries his blunted shapes. He hates the very logic of them, he says. But really, he makes cockroaches of shoelaces and guard rails, and he knows no boundary between truth and the smeared shuffle of paranoia.
There was a reason to write for him, once. Now he has found purpose in the hemorrhages nested behind his ears, and he speaks of them like kindreds.

I collect television static like rainwater
in my cupped palms, then stir it into the coffee I can hardly gather energy to drink.
Shuddering, slack-jawed, I bend toward the mouth of exhaustion and crumble into its balmy center.
